Stacey Abrams Says She May Run for President in 2020

Rising Democratic star Stacey Abrams suggests she may step into the 2020 presidential ring with President Trump. The 2018 Georgia gubernatorial runner-up suggested she might run for president in a tweet following an interview at the South by Southwest Stage conference in Austin, Texas.

Abrams promoted her book “Minority Leader: How to Build Your and Make Real Change” at the SXSW conference.

When asked about her plans for 2020, Abrams said she wants to be in a job that pays but, she also had plans to challenge President Trump.

“No matter what my job is, my task is to make certain that a Democrat is elected, not only to the White House but that we have democratic majority in the Senate and a democratic majority in Congress,” she said.

Abrams also said she thinks President is a racist. “I think he’s racist, I think he’s xenophobic, I think he’s homophobic. I think he has disdain for anything that he considers different than the norm,” Abrams said. She also said Trump was a “bully” but said she doesn’t think Democrats will defeat him by using his own tactics against him. “I think beating is the wrong mission. When you’re focused on your enemy then you are ignoring your allies.”

After attending the conference, Abrams tweeted: “20 years ago, I never thought I’d be ready to run for POTUS before 2028. But life comes at you fast – as I shared in Q&A w @Yamiche at @sxsw. Now 2020 is definitely on the table.”
