The UK’s Daily Mail settled the speculation definitively by producing the rapper’s birth certificate which proves he is a British citizen born in London – not Dominica, as he claimed.
According to his birth certificate, 21 Savage was born Shéyaa Bin Abraham on Oct. 22, 1992 at Newham Hospital in the London borough of Newham.
His father, Kevin Emmons, and his mother, Heather Joseph, are both British citizens. His mother still speaks with a strong British accent.
Emmons is rumored to be controversial Dr. Amsu Anpu, who markets himself as a “certified indigenous naturopath doctor, nutritionist and herbalist.” See photo below of Dr. Anpu and the rapper as a young boy.
21 Savage and his family arrived in the U.S. legally on temporary visas in 2005.
According to sources, 21 Savage and his mother made up the story that they were Dominican to conceal the fact that they were British nationals living illegally in the U.S after overstaying their visas.
News of the rapper’s arrest – and the revelation that he is actually British – sparked an plethora of memes on social media networks on Monday.
Fellow rappers Meek Mill and Killer Mike called out social media trolls for cruelly mocking the “Bank account” rapper who is currently detained on an indefinite immigration hold in the Atlanta City Jail in downtown Atlanta.
As a foreign national, the 26-year-old rapper will be detained in the U.S. immigration system without rights for months, or even years, while his legal team tries to cut through miles of bureaucratic red tape.
Sources say 21 Savage and his legal team were in discussions with immigration officials “for months” hoping to delay the inevitable deportation order.
Complicating his case further is his extensive criminal record which includes a felony drug conviction in Fulton County, Ga. in 2014.
Savage’s fans question the timing of his arrest. He apparently attracted the attention of immigration officials when he publicly criticized President Trump’s migrant policy during a performance of his song “A Lot,” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week.
He changed the lyrics of his song to throw shade at Trump’s U.S. border policy.
“Been through some things so I can’t imagine my kids stuck at the border, Flint still need water, People was innocent, couldn’t get lawyers,” he rapped.
21 Savage was arrested 5 days after his appearance on The Tonight Show.
It isn’t hard to guess who gave the order.
